Try to work in close collaboration with one or more hackers. If your organisation doesn't give you this opportunity, get involved in an OSS project where you know they have good quality code.<BR/>Books are usually best used as a reference, IMHO. <A HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang_of_Four_%28software%29" REL="nofollow">GoF</A> and Head First Design patterns are probably good places to learn OOP.
