I have seen some JD decoders over that past few years, for catch phrases - i.e. works independently means gets no help, training, or support. fast paced - high energy - means lots of overtime, and ridiculous deadlines.

good hm's know that your jd is an advertisement for you and your team. if you want talent, you shouldn't insult their intelligence in the ad.

to faisal - I agree req should reveal enough about the opportunity to make candidates salivate, but during the interview candidate should have the opportunity to hear about challenges in culture, technology, team structure, etc so that they can come in knowing full well what they are in for. overgeneralized req's mean that the hm (or recruiter) don't know what they really want or need. This can be valid, if the project isn't through technical design yet, however, most of the time it is just moronic people not being clear.

my second job search was bad, in that I was interviewing a lots of smaller companies that really did not have any mature tech staff and non-techies doing interviewing. its a wonder I ever found a job...

Sometimes the descriptions (particularly in the fi...

Sometimes the descriptions (particularly in the first group) come from HR and not the hiring manager. The req isn't necessarily a sign that the job is painful, but it's probably a good sign that the req won't tell you much about the job itself.

In a past role as a hiring manager I had to argue for a req that just listed the requirements (at least 2 years experience in the relevant programming language and technologies, familiarity with the specific environment) and skipped the filler (able to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment, 10 years experience with some 5 year old language that was all the rage and no where near our project). Apparently recruiting felt the small size of the requirements led to a req that wasn't attracting enough people, whereas I felt the big req was getting too many people that fit some but not all of the "requirements", and not enough people who had any of the actual requirements.

The third category is often a sign that the job has already been filled -- by tailoring the req to the person someone has already decided to hire, the company can make the claim that they advertised the job and only found one qualified applicant.

hi,
well, its tough to not fall for these tra...

hi,
well, its tough to not fall for these traps if the company has the good name, example wi*** they take in these ppl under the course called W*s*. where in that guy can do his MS from bits pillani and work at Wi***
Looks like a lucrative offer eh? here is the hidden stuff
1) The work is real hectic no week ends as you need to be there for your MS classes and job.
2) The pay is just 6K!
3) The worst of all is that the work experience is not taken into the consideration!..
4)And you need to pay 75k as the security deposit!

I feel , the companies which has such strategies just stink.
